Recently, Omkar Realtors & Developers has get the essential consent from the majority of eligible tenants for the redevelopment of Mahalaxmi Dhobi Ghat in Mumbai however; Mahalaxmi Dhobi Ghat is spread on the land of 7 acre in south Mumbai. A 100 years old Dhobi Ghat also known as the place of world’s largest open air Laundromat which is situated next to the race course and the Mahalaxmi railway station. This heritage site is the washing zone and it is the home of more than 8,000 slum dwellers.

This project which was mooted before a decade, the washing heritage site would retain its own previous identity as it is the only place for slums housing and now more than 1,118 families will be rehabilitated by the best real estate developer of Mumbai. The Director of Omkar Realtors & Developers, Gaurav Gupta, stated that, we have received the nod of more than 75 per cent of eligible tenants for this particular project and in next 6 to 9 month we will start the construction of the project. For the year 2104, the High Court of Bombay has directed the State Government of Maharashtra to invite the fresh and latest bids for the projects of redevelopment because one of the Mumbai based real estate developer was failed to get the consent from the majority of eligible tenants, which was essential to go ahead with the project

By the voting in secret ballot organized by SRA (Slum Rehabilitation Authority), the most of the slum dwellers reiterated their nod for the ORPPL (Omkar Realtors Projects Pvt Ltd) who was acted as the developer’s subsidiary to redevelop the Mahalaxmi Dhobi Ghat and its adjoining location at Saat Rasta locality. However; after voting it was cleared that developer has obtained the mandatory nod of the slum dwellers in which more than 90per cent slum dwellers used the voting rights. Kaushik More, the Director of Omkar Group stated that “At ORPPL we are always committed to enhance the living standards of the residents of Dhobi Ghat within a record timeline”. The more he added that Omkar Realtors Projects will rehabilitated about 40,000 slum dwellers in all over the Mumbai in last 10 years of duration.

As per the statement of one of the property consultants, it is estimated that land parcel have a potential of development for the area of 1 million sq ft after rehabilitating all of these slum dwellers and currently the rate of residential property is more than Rs 40,000 per sq ft. The Mahalakshmi Dhobi Ghat is also known as the world’s largest open laundry in open air and it is also one of the major tourist attractions in the metro city Mumbai. Everyday more than 10,000 washer men use about more than 750 individual units to wash millions of cloth.
