Living in palatial homes, owning regal cars, having in millions & billions in bank accounts are just some of the bonus points that come with being a celebrity. The real cherry on the cake is buying an island of one’s own to spend fortunes, just to take a few moments away from limelight.
Having a private island to spend a holiday, explore and relax is a dream, but not when you are an A-list celebrity and wish to enjoy time away from the snooping paparazzi.

At $15 million, Mel Gibson has one of the largest privately owned islands in the South-Pacific Ocean which he reportedly bought only for his peace. The Expendables star gorged on this 5400 acre island after the release of his controversial film Passion of the Christ in 2005. Unlike the other Hollywood biggies, Gibson has still not constructed any luxury resort or boutique hotels on the property yet.
Rooster Cay is a paradise in the Bahamas owned by Eddie Murphy. One of the most highly paid actors of Hollywood, Eddie always has moolah ringing in his treasury. Purchased for $15 million in 2007, Eddie plans to develop an opulent resort on the property.
Jack Sparrow aka Johnny Depp is the esteemed owner of Little Halls Pond Cay, a 45 acre island in the Bahamas. The property is surrounded by palm trees and six untouched white sand beaches, each of which is named after a member of his family. At just $3.6 million how could the pirate not have his own Caribbean island?
The Wolf of Wall Street, Leonardo Di Caprio purchased his private island Belize in 2005 for a reasonable amount of $1.75 million! The star plans to build an 80-room eco-friendly beach villa with a solar-powered air strip installed on the island for visitors to fly and come!
Although not his first venture into island real estate, Nicholas Cage purchased Leaf Cay in the Bahamas with a view to creating an exotic getaway for himself. The star bought this luxurious property way back in 2006 at a price of $3.6 million. He already owned a home on the Paradise Island but sold it off 3 years later, apparently because of an endangered native reptile.
Last but not the least, the Badshah of Bollywood, Shahrukh Khan has a Signature Villa in Palm Jumeirah, Dubai. Bearing a price tag of $2.8 million, Set on a 14,000 sq ft plot, the 2-storey villa has six bedrooms as well as a remote controlled two-car garage.
